Casement and awning windows are similar to each other in that they are designed the same way — they are windows that are attached to their frames by hinges, allowing you to push them open with ease. The main difference is that casement windows are attached to the sides of their frames (so that they open up from the side), while awning windows are attached to the tops of their frames (so that they open up from the bottom).

Casement windows do tend to be larger, while awning windows are typically smaller. Awning windows are often used as a way to bring in sunlight and fresh air while still retaining privacy, although many homeowners choose to install them above other windows as well.
